This is a semi-automatic penetrometer for the liquid limit test, a bench-mounted apparatus determining the liquid limit of fine-grained soils by cone penetration to BS 1377-2. It has a leveling base, a vertical guide column carrying the cone-and-shaft assembly, and a digital penetration-depth gauge with a built-in electronic timer releasing the cone for a controlled 5-second free-fall.
